DARRELL RICHE

With a BFA in Fine Art and Illustration from the University of Kansas (1986), my artistic journey has taken me from a budding artist to a seasoned professional working with some of the most iconic names in the industry, including Wizards of the Coast (Magic: The Gathering), Blizzard Entertainment, Warner Brothers, Lucasfilm, and Paizo (Dungeons & Dragons). Over the past 25 years, I’ve honed my craft as a freelance illustrator, taught at STEP Academy in Bellevue, WA, and founded My Masterpiece, a Mobile Paint Night business in Tacoma, WA.

Now, having returned to my hometown, I’m excited to give back to the next generation of artists. Looking back, I realize how invaluable it would have been to have a mentor guiding me through the early stages of my artistic journey. That’s why I’m committed to being that mentor for young artists today—offering the support, guidance, and encouragement I once needed.

As part of the 402 Arts Collective, I’m entering a new chapter focused on teaching and nurturing creativity. My goal is to help students find their own artistic voices, build confidence, and explore the power of conceptual storytelling. I want to inspire them to dream big, develop their skills, and create with purpose—whether they’re picking up a pencil for the first time or refining their craft.

While I continue to pursue new personal creative projects, I’m passionate about fostering a sense of artistic community and sharing the knowledge I’ve gained over decades in the field. Together, we can explore the boundless possibilities of art and help each student achieve their unique vision.
