MIKE FREEMAN
I taught instrumental students Band at Westside Community Schools (2001-2024, grades five and six), Storm Lake Community Schools, Iowa (1991-2001, grades five, six and assisted 9-12), Woodbine Community Schools, Iowa (1987-1990, grades 5-12).
I love teaching students how to play a Band instrument. My inspiration was in 7th grade, where I found my place in learning how to play trumpet and was inspired by my 7th grade Band Instructor, Mr. Dick Perot. I love encouraging each student to reach their full potential in making music and expressing themselves during their musical journey!
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Music Education at Doane College in Crete, NE (1980-1983), followed by a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance (1983-1985), and then my post Graduate work and Graduate Trumpet Assistant (1985-1987).
I gained professional experiences in the Military Bands with the 702nd Strategic Air Command Band, Offutt AFB, Omaha, NE (1976-1980) and First Trumpet/Soloist with the 43rd Army Band of the National Guard (1982-2016). I also received the Finley R. Hamilton Outstanding Military Musician Award in 2011. I had the honor of playing for President George H. W. Bush in 1989. I am a former member of the Plymouth Brass, Lincoln Chamber Orchestra and substitute with Lincoln and Omaha Symphonies (1983-1987).
I have played trumpet since age 12 and taught private lessons for 42 years.
