SKETCHBOOK SERIES - CHARACTER DRAWING

This class focuses on the art of capturing likeness, expression, and personality through portrait drawing. Students will learn foundational techniques such as proportion, structure of the head, and placement of facial features, while also exploring how subtle variations can create mood and individuality. Emphasis will be placed on observational drawing, helping students move beyond stiff outlines toward portraits that feel natural and expressive.

We’ll primarily work in pencil and pen for clarity and precision, with optional use of charcoal and markers to experiment with tone, shading, and texture. Each session includes guided demonstrations, step-by-step exercises, and opportunities for independent sketching, allowing students to build confidence while developing their own style.

By the end of the series, participants will have a sketchbook filled with portraits ranging from quick studies to more polished drawings, showcasing both technical growth and creative exploration.
